Yisrayl Hawkins
 Yisrayl (Israel) Hawkins (born William Hawkins and known as "Buffalo Bill" Hawkins) is the founder of the House of Yahweh religious group in Abilene, Texas. He claims to be descended from Jewish immigrants who fled Nazi persecution in Europe.
Hawkins was a country-western singer earlier in his life. In 1974 his brother Jacob (Yaaqob) Hawkins returned from a seven-year visit to Israel and decided to form the first House of Yahweh congregation in Odessa, Texas. He preached distinct doctrines that would later be adopted by his brother, such as the belief in the necessity of referring to God as Yahweh and Jesus as Yahshua, as well as following the Torah and the Jewish festivals.
In 1980, Bill (who later changed his name to Yisrayl) Hawkins began his own House of Yahweh in his home in Abilene. Hawkins taught that he and his brother were prophesied by the Old and New Testaments as the "Two Witnesses"; prophets sent by Yahweh to prepare the world for the Second Coming of Yahshua the Messiah. In addition, Abilene is said to be the location of the New Jerusalem.
Hawkins is a prolific writer and has authored numerous books, tracts, and other religious literature to promote his organization's belief that it is the only tool that Yahweh now uses to spread His message. Hawkins was the primary editor of the
Book of Yahweh: The Holy Scriptures, which is the version of the Bible his followers use.
He has accused of being a cult leader because of his strong authority in the HoY compound. Most of his followers have changed their names to fit in with Biblical names, and many have adopted the surname of Hawkins. He has also been accused of mind-control, child and spousal abuse, and apocalypticism by his opponents. It should be noted that none of these accusations have been substantiated.
Among other things, Hawkins has promoted the building of the third Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, but in a location that would not damage or intrude upon the Dome of the Rock, Islam's third holiest site. He teaches that this eventual development will herald the soon return of Yahshua.
